Understanding their needs
FutureLearn Limited is the first UK-led platform for Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) from multiple top-ranking universities. It is owned by The Open University (OU)
We advised the company in the build-up to the announcement of its launch and then worked with the senior management to build a communications team.
Unravelling their complexity
We became an extension of the team in the months running up to the launch, and was involved in almost every area of the business, from setting up procedures for suppliers and quality assurance, to advising the CEO on branding and reputation.
We developed a communications strategy and messaging framework, created content for the pre-launch website, managed key stakeholder relationships, working closely with the OU’s in-house Communications Unit, recruited permanent staff members and managed the procurement of a consumer PR agency.
Captivating their audience
The launch of the company secured over 100 pieces of high-value coverage including the FT, Economist, Times Higher Education and Tech Crunch. We managed recruitment of a PR agency and in-house communications team and created a solid, successful platform for them to build on.
I, and my colleagues, really do see the team at Thwaites as an integral part of the Energy Systems Catapult… and, even though we were working to a tight timeline, I had no doubt that the event would be a success. The team are able to think and operate strategically, but are also not afraid to get their hands dirty, which is a real bonus to us as a new organisation.
